What I Offer
Personal training is a bit of a ‘catch all’ heading with multiple facets. Strength training, or resistance training is actually about much more than building muscle. Men and women alike benefit tremendously from using resistance training to become stronger. Much more than simply moving a weight from A to B, my strength training programmes are a highly individualised combination of corrective exercise, mobility training, muscular endurance, muscular strength training with a good cardiovascular and nutritional base to underpin and facilitate the hard work. The basis is a always a highly individualised plan using NASM’s scientifically proven OPT model of training. The Optimum Performance Training system utilises a periodised, multi-stage system to build stability, endurance, strength and power, and I add my own strong joint conditioning element to improve mobility and minimise injury.

Mobility is the foundation of all exercise – there is a mobility element to everything I do but mobility training is also a stand-alone focus. Mobility is separate to flexibility, just because someone is flexible does not mean they can perform at a decent level and remain injury free, for example. Mobility is flexibility under control, with strength through the entire range of motion. My starting point is to look at static and dynamic posture, joint mobility and kinetic chain function, and structure a plan to improve joint range of motion. I use a range of techniques to strengthen joints and close the gap between passive (where a joint can be pushed by an external force) and active range (where the joint can be moved naturally). Ultimately, stronger joints mean fewer injuries and less pain. Key areas of focus are hips, spine and shoulders, where so many people have issues. It is life-changing to regain good mobility in these areas particularly.

Training for Running or Sport
Play a sport? Are you a runner, footballer, rugby player, golfer or just want to excel? Each activity has it’s fundamental movement patterns and specific demands so to notch it up a bit I break your chosen activity down into its key elements and we work on developing these to a higher level. This begins with a corrective exercise programme, and progresses through strength, mobility, agility, balance and power development. This is basically badass circuit training, based on a mixed martial arts conditioning programme. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be an MMA fighter, or even have ambitions to step into the ring but you can train to achieve the same level of fitness as top combat athletes with this demanding yet fun tailor-made 12-week progressive personal training fitness programme. Fitness for Golf
Unashamedly, Fitness for Golf is a 12-month integrated fitness programme covering flexibility, mobility, stability, strength and power elements. The periodised programme begins in January with stability and mobility training and peaks with power training to coincide with the playing season.
I currently work individually or in small group sessions but the course will be available via subscription online in early 2021. I help golfers to improve each aspect of the game from a fitness point of view. Ground-up mobility from ankles to shoulders and increasing joint range of motion is a key element in achieving good fitness for golf. Numerous scientific studies have shown sub-optimal mobility to be detrimental to performance, not to mention the fact there is a much higher risk of injury. You play golf to improve and enjoy it, right? Work with me and your shoulders and spine will thank you, and you’ll develop Shakira hips. Once you have improved mobility we then work to build on that and enhance strength and power. The result is a more enjoyable game with fewer aches and pains, more distance with less effort, greater accuracy, less likelihood of injury and the satisfaction that comes with a great tee shot.
As always, the starting point is a full postural and movement assessment, leading to a personalised corrective exercise routine, and then endurance, strength, mobility and power development through focused exercise. The course is comprised of a goody bag with resistance bands, release ball, and grip trainer, up to 3 contact sessions per week, online check-ins, and unlimited chat, encouragement and support.

Nutrition & Body Composition
My ethos is prevention over cure, to build overall health and create a strong immune system and personal resilience through exercise, good diet, and looking after the gut. Body composition change, specifically fat loss, is a popular goal for both men and women, and one that requires special focus. Sometimes it can mean some pretty significant changes are required, other times it’s just a tweak and a nudge in the right direction. There is so much written on the subject, which can become very confusing. I will help you understand where to focus and what to ignore and provide a checklist for us to work on together. No food is off-limits, but we must find the balance. I am tuned in to the cutting edge of nutritional and exercise science and work with selected experts to provide the optimal health plan specifically for you. There are very few supplements worth taking in my book, I’ll help you cut through the sports industry BS and tune in to the worthwhile stuff.
